Description: A beautiful saturation and distortion generator, taken straight from the heart of Tweaker Kush’s hardware compressor.
Kush Audio Omega TWK is a vintage distortion taken straight from the heart of the Kush Tweaker hardware compressor. The sound of the Omega TWK comes from simulating the Tweaker overdriving a pair of “super-matched transistors” powering a long chain of dirty 70s op-amps, all of which have characteristics that would be terrible by modern standards.

Lightly sanding each of these pruning stages before moving on to the next is a smooth, thick, slightly dark saturation. For this reason, the TWK model (like the Tweaker himself) switches a little faster from “soft and sweet” to “angry and abrasive” than other Omega transformers with their more forgiving circuits made of tubes and iron.

A current favorite app is the only place you might not be using a dedicated plugin saturator – the mix bus. Place the TWK model in the 2-Mix and turn the intensity until you hardly ever see a green LED blink. The result is one of the smoothest, tape-like saturations from the ’70s you’ve ever heard of a snap.

The Kush Audio Omega TWK dirtiness is the result of modeling the way Tweaker overdrives a long chain of ’70s op-amps that have all the specs that modern standards can consider miserable. But it’s precisely this slow, dirty sound that makes the Tweaker such a warm and charming friend for all kinds of sounds. The heart of Tweaker’s opamp chain is another friend of distortion lovers, the “supercomparable transistor”, a primitive and imperfect attempt to perfectly balance the push and pull of a primitive VCA.
